Pilgram Progress

Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgement, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil. (Ecclesiastes 12:13b-14)

Dream

I have a dream, that one day I can write down my life testimony of what God has done in my life in details and my thoughts on certain issue, before I depart my current place and move on to the next stage of life. It will be a big project, and I think it may be thick enough to compile it into a book. However, I don't know if I have enough time and inspiration to finish it off.

Every moment of life was so precious that it is worthwhile to pen it down before it fades away.

My Interview

Though my interview has already been finished, sometimes I was still lingering on my performance and the answer that I have given during my interview this week.

For the first day interview, the panel has raised question on the following topics

1. Constitutional Reforms
2. Health Care Reform
3. How to advise the Education Secretary to deal with the recent complaint on the Commercial Radio regarding the election of the most wanted indecent assualted actress

I was nervous at the beginning. My answering to the first question was not too good. I was for the universal suffrage, but I said that the government can only set the corresponding timetable after the next election. I also suggested some kind of political lobbying group for the sake of universal suffrage. The second question is related to Health Care Reform, which is very good for me to answer because it is related to economics and I had a glimpse of the their consultaton document beforehand. Therefore I look like an expert on this issue. The third question related to indecent assault has caught me in a sudden, but I was answering quite well. I answer in a very bureacratic way on the issue related to ethics. Then they challenged me on the basis of freedom of speech for the press, and I responded by suggesting to bring the issue to the LegCo and using the democratic process to decide the standard. They could not challenge my point afterwards.

Though my interview is only for around 30 minutes, I have spent my whole afternoon doing nothing, hanging around in the street, waiting for the results and for 'decompression' as the interview was so intense. That evening they phone me that I was shortlisted to the final stage interview. I felt relief, with excitment.

The final day consists of a group discussion in the morning and a final interview in the afternoon. On the group discussion, we were asked to discuss the following case with a designated role.

1. Logistic, port development, and employment of low-skilled worker;
2. Classification of the film category and whether to adopt a more flexible approach on porngraphy act;
3. Obseity and overweight of people and childen;

The final day interview has only left with 6 people, and I was the oldest among all. I have shared a lot of points, I was able to defend my position and I can respond to other people viewpoint. After the exercise, I felt that I was the strongest among the group

I was the last one to get interview, so I have waited in the sitting room for the whole afternoon. It's good for me, as I can have enough rest before the interview. The final round interview they have raised questions on the following topics
1. The first and the second Iraq War
2. Introduction of sales tax (VAT) in the society
3. My most memorable event in life using mandarin

I was relief when they have asked me on these topics. For the Iraq war I was able to distinguish the nature and again they were unable to challenge my position. For the question on VAT, as it is related to economics so I found it easy to answer. The third question I have directed them to look at my Extra-Curricular Activities.

Apart some times that my english is a bit clumsy, my interviews seem to go quiet well, and thanks God, I didn't speak in exaggeration nor do any empty boast.

* * * * * *

It's a memorable experiences. I will know my result in mid-July. Even though I can't get it, the experiences has already instilled me with more confidence. During the two-interview, though it's quite stressful, I still kept my quiet time and God has comfort my heart through the time of stress in the following words.

On How Everything Must Return to God as its Final End (Ch.9, Book 3, The Imitation of Christ)

1. My son, I must be your highest and final end, if you truly wish to be happy. Out of this purpose your affection will be purified, too often wrongly bent back upon itself and upon created things. For if in anything you seek yourself, you forthwith fail within yourself, and grow dry. Therefore, first of all, refer all to me, because I am the one who has given all. So look upon each several blessing as flowing from the supreme good, and so it is that all things must be returned to me, as to their source.

2.From me small and great, poor and rich, as from a living fountain, drink living water, and those who, of their own will freely serve me, will receive grace for grace. But he who will glory in anything outside of me, or take light in any private good, will not be established in true joy, nor enlarged in his heart, but in very many ways will be hindered and hemmed in. You must, therefore, ascribe no good to yourself, nor to any man attribute virtue, but give the whole to God without whom man has nothing. I gave all, I wish to reposses all, and with great strictness I require acts of thanksgiving.

3.This is truth, by which the emptiness of boasting is put to flight, and if heavenly grace and true love have entered in, there will be no envy or narrowing of the heart, nor shall self-love lay hold of you. For heaven's love conquers all things, and widens all the power of the soul, because there is no one good save God alone, who is to be praised above all things and in all things blessed.

May His will be done.

Vietnam

Tonight a couple in the fellowship has invited me to go to their father and auntie house for dinner. The family is from Vietnam. His father and auntie has shared their past to me, of how they have escaped from Vietnam during the liberation of their country from the communist. The Vietnam story, I have seen it from the movie, and I have read it from the book. However, for tonight, it was my first time to hear the story directly from those who have personally experienced this trauma in their life.

I can't image what will happen to my life and what I am going to do if I was born in that turmoil age. I can't speculate, as there is point to ask such counterfactual question. Perhaps it is only when we are facing with this kind of life-or-dead issue, that we will start to treasure what we have in our life.
